The University of Kentucky Bands are an integral part of the extensive activities of the Winds, Percussion and Jazz Division of the School of Music, offering three concert bands, the Wildcat Marching Band and Basketball Pep Band, and several jazz and percussion ensembles. University Bands is part of the College of Fine Arts and the UK School of Music.
Students from all academic disciplines are invited to participate in the UK Band program as membership in all of our bands is open to any interested and qualified University of Kentucky student regardless of major. The UK Bands will host the 15th annual UK High School Honors Wind Ensemble on Friday, February 12 - Sunday, February 14, 2010. Lowell E. Graham, former Conductor of the U.S. Air Force Concert Band in Washington, D.C. will serve as our guest conductor.
This elite group of 50-60 musicians will be selected through application and recorded audition, and will be guests of the university during the weekend of February 12-14, 2010. During this special weekend students will have the
opportunity to meet members of the music faculty, attend master classes, hear faculty/student ensembles, and perform with other outstanding musicians from Kentucky and surrounding states.
WMB announces scholarship recipients
Drum Major Jenna Parrett (Union, KY) and Sousaphone section leader Taylor Brandenburg (Lawrenceburg, KY) have been awarded the Tommy Sandusky Memorial Endowed Band Scholarship. Ms. Parrett will be a senior in the fall of 2009, majoring in Psychology. Mr. Brandenburg will be a junior, and is majoring in Secondary Science Education.
This award is given in memory of Tommy Sandusky to students who have completed at least two years in the Wildcat Marching Band and who best exemplify the spirit of commitment and dedication to and the joy of participation in the UK Wildcat Marching Band as manifest by Tommy Sandusky during the years of his participation and contribution. The non-renewable award is given to non-music majors for one year only.
