Wildcat Marching Band Audition Information
2012 Season

An audition is required of all new and transfer students for membership in the Wildcat Marching Band. This allows us to hear all prospective members before Early Week, and it gives you a chance to meet our staff and ask any questions you may have about the WMB. Students who have already auditioned for and have been accepted into the School of Music are not required to audition separately for the WMB. All students planning on marching with the WMB must complete the online Intent to March form. Auditions for woodwind and brass players are held during Merit Weekend, your Summer Advising Conference, or any other time by appointment. Please call the band office at (859) 257-2263 prior to your visit to schedule a time. Drumline auditions are held at the beginning of Early Week (the week before classes start).

 

Auditions for the color guard and Sweetheart Majorettes are held during the spring (see specific information below). Please contact the band office for information about color guard auditions, or Jenni Webb (Sweetheart Majorette coordinator) to inquire about information for Sweetheart Majorette auditions.

 

We can work around most schedule conflicts! If you cannot audition on the dates listed below, please contact the person listed before the audition date to arrange an alternate time.

Audition information for Woodwind and Brass players

  • When: During Merit Weekend, your Summer Advising Conference, or other time by appointment
  • Where: UK Band Office - 33 Fine Arts Building
  • Contact: (859) 257-2263 to schedule a time
  • What to prepare:
    1) A short excerpt/exercise of your choice demonstrating your technical and musical ability (need not be accompanied)
    2) A chromatic scale which demonstrates your range on your instrument
    3) A short sightreading excerpt (will be provided for you)

 

 

Audition information for Percussionists

  • When: During Early Week (August)
  • Where: Fine Arts Building - UK main campus

  • What to prepare: Drumline audition will be posted in July. Please check back.

 

 

Audition information for Color Guard

  • When: June 9, 2012 - 1:00pm
  • Where: Fine Arts Building - UK Main Campus
  • Contact: Wildcat Marching Band
  • What to prepare:
    Students will need to wear comfortable clothes (no jeans) and sneakers, and should bring their own flag. Auditions will consist of a brief dance and flag routine learned the day of the audition. Please contact the band office to RSVP, or with any other questions.
