Jim Daughters
Jim is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. He is currently an arranger for the University of Kentucky Wildcat Marching Band and Pep Bands, and is the Band Director at Conner Middle School. He is also an arranger for many high school marching bands in the southeast, as well as numerous wind and chamber groups at the high school and university level.
In 1997, Jim was awarded a reseach grant by the University of Kentucky to study music composition. Since that time, Jim has received several commissions by high school, middle school, and college ensembles as well as winning the 1997 John Barnes Chance Composition contest. His pieces have been performed at the Bands of America Concert Band Festival, Kentucky Music Educators Association, and the Eastern Trombone Workshop. Jim has been a member of the KBC Staff since 1996. Most recently, the Conner Middle School Band was a featured performing group at the 2008 KMEA Conference & Clinic in Louisville.
Chris Hedges
Chris Hedges is a graduate of Pikeville High School (1989) in Pikeville, KY. He received his BME from Morehead State University (1993) following his student teaching tenure at Lafayette High School under Dr. Steve Moore, Dr. Terry Magee, and Cindi Hawkins. He received his MA in Secondary Leadership from MSU (2005).
Mr. Hedges is the former band director at Harrison County High School, East Central High School (IN), Campbell County High School, Grant County High School, and Rowan County High School. Mr. Hedges’ bands have performed in 8 KMEA State Marching Band Finals. Mr. Hedges’ bands have also consistently received Distinguished ratings at KMEA Concert Band Festivals.
Mr. Hedges is a member of KMEA, MENC, and Phi Beta Mu. He was the 2000 recipient of the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmaster Fraternity Outstanding Young Band Director and Kentucky Post’s Golden Apple Teacher Award. He received the 2001 KMEA District 6 Teacher of the Year Award.
